The day has finally arrived. Four years of sweat and tears went into the creation of Nightingale, and I’m so happy to set it free into the world.

Inspiration

Algonquin5

I knew from the start I wanted to set the book in my home region of Muskoka. It was harder than I thought to describe just how beautiful and unique this area is, but I hope it’s captured within the pages. If you’ve never been to Ontario’s cottage country, you should put it on your bucket list. I couldn’t imagine living anywhere else.

Check out this cover. Love it!

Stuck writing for the dull society pages, journalist Darcy Delacorte sets her sights on getting an interview with reclusive millionaire Micah Laine. While she expects the broody tycoon to be a challenge, she isn’t prepared for his dark charm or his price for the sordid details of his past—a price that begins with her spending a week alone with him.

Micah may be a loner, but he’s not a monk, and there’s something about Darcy… He decides that if Darcy wants him to reveal his secrets, she’s going to have to reveal a little of herself. The bigger the revelation he offers up, the bigger the cost he’ll demand from her—a secret of her own, her wildest fantasies, a kiss. And that’s only for starters…

But when Darcy reveals a vulnerability Micah never expected, he knows he should get away fast, or be in danger of losing his heart.

Dolan wants nothing more than to escape his village for the big city where his small stature and unpleasant features won’t make him the recipient of constant ridicule by the lord of the manor and his heir, Gilroy. The mist that dances to the sweet notes of Dolan’s flute is his only camaraderie and the only beauty in his life—except for Keavy.

When the kind milkmaid is faced with unwanted attentions, Dolan must defend her honor with a choice that will ultimately change his life.

Valcone is the reclusive prince of Auric. Confined to his room—for the safety of his subjects—he craves control over his persuasive powers.

The prince and the farmgirl’s powerful personalities will collide with epic force when a war erupts between Auric and a neighboring kingdom. With Auric’s fate on the line, Valcone tests the limits of his ability. He amplifies his steady push into a forceful shove against Meadow’s gentle Nature. The Earth-shaper finds herself between a rock and a hard place, literally, where the only choice to save her family may lie in surrendering to the destructive force of her ground-breaking ability.

The Dragon, The Witch, and the Swordswoman

By Claire Davon

As the person responsible for calling the bronze dragon that destroyed her village, Losha is tasked with killing it. Failure to do so means she will be outcast from everything she has ever known. Yet one she is on the road, two local women in tow, she finds that she is strangely reluctant to harm the beast that lurks in her mind.

After an encounter with an oddly familiar old woman and a knight in a small hamlet Losha is more confused than ever. On one hand, failure to slay the dragon means she cannot return to the promise of marriage from a local boy yet the more she learns about the dragon the less she wants to harm it.  It, like the bronze sword that is her only defense, speaks to her in a way nothing else has.

The stage is set for a final showdown between knight and beast when the knight’s true quest is revealed and Losha must choose between all she has ever known, or the companionship of an old woman…and a dragon.

Alice and the Egg

By Rebecca Hart

It doesn’t take long for Alice to realize the palace has secrets. Ones that relate to her own past more than she could ever have imagined. If she can find a way to play the game of secrets well enough, not only could she save her father, she just may manage to save herself as well.

Forging Mettle

By Michael Siciliano

Xander, a teenaged street thief in the grimy slums of Low Town, discovers he has an innate magical talent on the same night his father is killed. Intent on getting revenge, he attempts a risky robbery which goes bad. Rather than face the hangman’s noose, Xander agrees to accompany a group of soldiers intent on finding a powerful magical artifact. But the Beggar’s Hand isn’t what the King’s sorcerer thinks. Deep in the mountains, Xander must make life and death decisions, not just for himself, but the Kingdom he calls home.

Excerpt from Chapter Four

“You’re no more of a monster than I am,” I said. I was the larger monster in the room in terms of power, but Isaac didn’t appear to have picked up on the insult. “I don’t need to know your people to do my job well. I’ll do whatever it takes to find the truth.”

“You see, lass, herein lies my dilemma. You taste of truth, but also of fear. Perhaps you intend to lead me away from the truth instead of to it, and I canna be sure which it is.” He stopped in front of me, so close his clean-shaven chin blocked the room from my sight. “You stand before me in silk and pearls and dainty heels. Most believe what you said before, that you’re but an average woman, but I’ve seen you bring a hell hound to heel without saying a word. There’s more to you than meets the eye.”

I jumped when his hand brushed my outer thigh and traced the edges of my knife harness through the skirt.

“You hide your true danger from the world, and it comes from something more lethal than a stone blade strapped to your thigh.”

How had he known it was there? I grabbed his wrist, aware of the unbridled power in his body that was so near. “Mind your manners,” I said.

My thoughts twisted into chaos as I reached for words that would get me out of the room alive. I had to phrase my response carefully to avoid an outright lie. “Tell me how I can prove that I’m no danger to you or your people.”

He pressed his hands into the door beside my head, trapping me there with the solid mass of his muscular frame. His hair brushed my bare arm, inducing a rash of shivers, and his voice fell low, intimate. “I need to see what you saw in that tunnel.” A slight twist of his head brushed his lips against my hair, and warm breath washed across my temple.

Lost in the vibrating potential in his body, I trembled, his request registering slowly in my thoughts. “I can’t do what you’re asking.”

He wanted an invitation into my mind, one that couldn’t be ungiven. All I was, every memory since my birth—including my species—would be his for the taking. Although he could breech my mental borders regardless, taking me by force would also provoke a kill order on him, thanks to changes I’d helped bring to the law.

Sweat broke out on my brow at the thought of him injured or dead. My jinn side surged within my soul in response, and I suffered a violent urge to take him and flee. What on earth? Since when did Isaac’s life rank higher than my own?

“If you haven’t committed these crimes, then you have nothing to fear from me.” He gripped my face with strong hands, lining my chin up with his. Nobody could help me. Not Gerry and not Deirdre. Not the earth or my connection to it.

“Please, Isaac. Force this, and you die. Your people need you. There’s nothing in my memory of this incident, or any of the others, that I haven’t told you. Listen to the truth in my voice.”

After another agonizing few seconds, Isaac released my face, dropping one hand that had grown black claws to my chest above my left breast. “As always with you, your truth is clouded. You’re hiding something. If I find my people’s blood on your hands, our relationship over the years will not stop me from ripping your heart out and drinking it down as I watch the light leave your stunning blue eyes. Bring me a murderer, or I’ll take you in his place.”

Meet the Author with Melissa J. Crispin

I have another wonderful young adult author in the hot seat today. Her debut novel, Collide, came out recently with Evernight Teen. Welcome, Melissa!

Before I dive into the questions, I just want to take a moment to say thank you for having me on your blog today!

Have you ever done what the author t-shirts threaten and written somebody you dislike into a story? No need to name names, or anything.  If so, what did you put them through?

Yes, I’m guilty of this. I once had a terrible boss who I swear enjoyed making people miserable. She inspired a story about a woman who discovers her boss is a demon who thrives on the misfortune of others. The demon would draw strength from the stress and chaos that she created around her. My protagonist catches on to what’s happening and creates order in the workplace that ultimately leads to the demon’s downfall.

Ha! I think I’ve had one or two of those bosses myself. What’s your favorite paragraph from Collide and why? No spoilers now, just a nice, slow tease if you please.

Wow. It’s tough to pick ‘the’ favorite paragraph for me, but this is one of them. Alright, so I cheated because I included two paragraphs, but they’re really short so I feel like they can count as one. In this scene, Alec is helping Kayla dismount from a horse. It is written from Kayla’s POV:

When my feet hit the ground, he didn’t let go, his arms circling my waist while mine wrapped around his neck. The familiarity of his closeness and the overwhelming comfort that followed nearly dropped me to my knees. Torment swirled in those sapphire eyes, and all I wanted in that moment was to calm the storm.

My gaze lowered to his lips, and I recalled the many kisses we shared, all of them emblazoned in my memory, clear as day. But it was too late for us, thanks to me.

Ooo, nice. *dashes off to grab myself a copy* Where did your hero come from? Someone you know?  Dreams of the *ahem* daytime persuasion?  What makes him tick?  Inquiring minds would like to know.

The inciting incident for Collide entered my mind before I really knew who the characters were. Alec wasn’t based on anyone I know. I used the exercises in The 90 Day Novel by Alan Watt to discover who he was, though it took me much longer than ninety days to finish the first draft. I was able to formulate his likes, dislikes, motivations, and goals through the questions presented toward the beginning of the book.

As far as what makes him tick? I’d say Kayla definitely does. But, seriously, he is a hard-working guy dedicated to protecting the girl he loves. When he’s not worried about the fate of the universe, he spends his time making kick-ass meals. What’s not to love about a guy who could kick some butt should the need arise, and cook an impressive dinner when things are chill?

Mmm, love me a guy who can cook. Are there any other fantastic novels waiting to burst free from your imagination in the future? Can you tell us about them?

Collide is a stand-alone story, but it is the start of a series. Book two has been started, but it’s in early stages yet. It picks up only a few months after where the first book leaves off. I’d love to tell you more, but that would give away what happens at the end of Collide, so I’ll have to keep it to myself for the moment.

I’ve also been working on a new adult, futuristic sci-fi romance where the President’s daughter falls in love with a galactic garbage man. She finds out later that his father is the head of a very powerful mob that her own father does shady dealings with. The main character and her love interest find themselves in the middle of a dangerous disagreement between their dads.

Tell us about your road to publication. Was it short and sweet?  Long and winding with many bumps?

My road to publication fell somewhere in the middle. Though short and sweet would have been awesome, I didn’t get published as quickly as I would’ve liked. I started writing six years ago. My first manuscript was a contemporary romance which needed so much work that, to this day, I still haven’t gathered the courage to go in and edit it.

Collide was written after that. It took me about a year to write the first draft. I remember thinking it was taking forever, but I work full-time so finding the time to write can pose interesting challenges. I went through multiple rounds with beta readers, and received several rejections when I started submitting to various literary agents. Each time I was lucky enough to get feedback with a rejection, I fine-tuned whatever I could. At some point, I switched gears and decided that I wanted to work with a small press. I had heard great things about Evernight, and decided to submit to them. I was over the moon when Evernight Teen accepted Collide for publication.

Going back to edit a story is so hard, isn’t it? We’re so glad you persevered with Collide! If you could be a superhero, what would your power be and why?

I don’t know if other people would find this boring, but I would love to be an omni-linguist like Wonder Woman. Though it may not seem exciting on the surface, it would be incredibly useful. I love the idea of being able to hop on a plane to anywhere in the world, and be able to communicate with anyone, no matter what language they spoke. How cool is that?

Awesome answer – you could be a master negotiator of peace with those bad-ass skills. If I opened up your purse/handbag right now, what would I find in there?

I carry around a wristlet, rather than a regular-sized handbag, so there isn’t much I can cram in there. The only thing it can hold is my wallet, a pack of gum, and a pen. If I get crafty, I can sometimes stick my phone in there, too.

Thanks for letting us into your creative mind today, Melissa. And now for the pretty. Isn’t it awesome?

The book that almost wasn’t #ForeverDusk #BookBirthday

FDTourBanner

There were times over the last year when I wondered if this day would ever come. This book was THAT hard to write. I’d built a complicated world with an elaborate backstory, filled with a giant cast of characters who all deserved to have their stories told. How could I possibly create an ending to live up to the first two books AND fit it all into one novel that wouldn’t overwhelm the reader?

Without my incredibly talented and insightful editor, I wouldn’t have. I’d tried so hard, too, and thought I’d nailed it when I hit SEND that first time. What a heart-breaker that first round edit email turned out to be.

In the past, I prided myself on turning in fairly clean manuscripts that needed a good solid polish, maybe a few story changes, but nothing to stress about. With Forever Dusk, however, my good streak would come to an abrupt end.

There are too many story lines, too many characters, and too much going on. You need to simplify.

Translation: I needed to kill my darlings. Cut characters loose despite having built their personalities and backstories with the intent of giving them their redemption, helping them overcome their fears, and to find peace.

How could I do that to them? My creations. I gave them immortal life within the pages, promised to take care of them after all of the tormenting was done, and now I had to abandon them. It didn’t matter that they weren’t real people, other than within my imagination. My heart hurt that I had to let them fade into the background while their companions found their endings.

Even once I’d sorted out what/who had to stay and what/who had to go, it took weeks of intense edits to tear the book into pieces, and if I’m honest, a few tears of frustration. After I was done, my 90,000 word novel sat at 26,000 words, with story gaps large enough to park a semi in. One big, messy puzzle I didn’t yet have all the pieces for, and I had mere weeks to pull a miracle out of that quagmire. I’m normally a fairly linear writer, but I had to throw all of my habits out the window and jump all over the story, rebuilding it one small scene at a time until everything was connected again.

I’d done it. I couldn’t save everyone, and it nearly killed the muse, too, but it was finished.

Thank. Bloody. Hell.

Although I’m sad to say goodbye to the Mortal Machine world, I’m also hugely relieved it’s over, too. I’ve learned so much over the two years I spent with these imagined people, and I’m going to miss them terribly.

BACK OF THE BOOK

Since their last battle, life for the Mortal Machine—the secret-society that protects Earth and its inhabitants from dark outside forces—has become almost…normal. For everyone but Addison. The evil she’s imprisoned in her soul has begun eating away at her sanity, and despite her soul mate Asher’s efforts to hold her together, it’s causing painful and terrifying delusions.
Consequently, nobody believes Addison’s warnings that Marcus, their old enemy, has returned. When Marcus threatens Asher and the Machine, she agrees to find what he seeks—a treasure that, in his hands, could be deadly.
If she relies too much on Asher, she knows he’ll likely imprison her, if only to preserve what’s left of her deteriorating mind. But if she fails this final test, Earth will fall. So Addison is forced to distance herself from her love, to prevent the life she wants with Asher from being over before it truly begins.

To acknowledge some of the characters who didn’t get their moment in the spotlight, I’ve included one of the scenes I cut from the original book. This story never came to pass, one of the many littering my editing room floor.

~

“Get out of my way, sentinel,” Asher said with what sounded like forced calm into Kat’s face.

She stood in front of Caine in a battle-ready crouch, her arms held wide to prevent Asher from getting around her. “You so much as lay a finger on him, and I’ll end you. He’s been agitated since you came through the door, so just leave.”

Asher knew how the memory wipe thing worked better than I did, so he was going to try to do a full baseline of him, which was a sort of metaphysical inventory of his soul, including his memories. It required touch between non-conduits, and maybe even a little blood. Maybe I should have made Kat leave before Asher had gotten the ceremonial dagger out, but she’d appeared frantic at the mere mention of leaving Caine alone with us, so I’d let her stay. So much for her promise to behave.

Caine clung to the fireplace, once again lost inside his head despite Samson and Sophia’s attempts to bring him out of it with gentle words. Sophia placed her hand on Caine’s arm and he flinched back, muttering something incoherent. It just about killed me to see him suffering, and after talking at length with Mom about other possibilities, and with no word from the possibly in-danger Izan, I still wasn’t any closer to giving my sentinel peace or unlocking the whereabouts of the swarm.

Sophia shook her head. Her eyes appeared tear-glossed, but she held onto her composure as she returned to where Remy loomed in the doorway. I’d balked at the extra people, but Asher thought it would be a good idea to have some backup in case Caine lost it again.

I came in beside Asher, and without me saying a word, he backed off and shot me a questioning glance. With so much on my mind I’d failed to mention the Kat/Caine situation to him. Asher didn’t have much of a bedside manner with anyone other than me, and if it were up to him, he’d probably have tossed Kat out into a false reality somewhere and dealt with her wrath later. Since I’d come along, he tended to let me handle the delicate situations.

“You care for him, I get that,” I began in my gentlest voice, wincing at my choice of words. Kat being the hardass she was wouldn’t want me pointing out that she had feelings, especially for someone who was emotionally and metaphysically unavailable.

“What? I do not care for him, other than…” She straightened, staring at me as if I’d just spoken pig Latin. While jabbing an accusing finger at me, she added, “He’s my…I’m responsible for him. You gave me this job, to protect him from himself and everything else, so go away and let me do it.”

I considered how to talk her down in a way that would get through to her. Sure, I could order her away or do one of Asher’s nasty tricks, but if I ever wanted to win her trust, I couldn’t do that. She’d always felt invisible, unimportant, and aimed to become better, and I’d used that against her once, but I got the feeling that wouldn’t play this time.

Given her desperate need to protect Caine, and the affection for the guy that had put cracks in her bitch armor that even I could see through, I had another idea. “You’ve taken better care of him than anyone else could have, and we’re all grateful. But it isn’t going to mean much if we don’t find the bugs and make sure they don’t destroy the true reality, the Machine—including Caine—and possibly the other true realities, too. You’re good, but I don’t think you’re good enough to protect him from that, and neither am I. Help me make sure we never have to find out.”

Kat kept staring at me. Her breath quickened as I imagined her playing out that scenario in her head. I’d never lied to her, and her wilting posture said that she believed me and hated it. After glancing back at Caine, and then at Asher, she finally settled her defeated stare on me. “Give me a minute with him.”

Excerpt

Towel wrapped around me, I peeked out the bathroom door into Trent’s dimly lit bedroom. A T-shirt and shorts lay on his massive, king-sized bed.

I tugged the shorts up my damp legs, but couldn’t get them over my bum. More tears pricked as I cursed my too-much body. Trent’s shirt hung to the middle of my thighs. It would have to do.

Trent lounged beside the blazing fire pit. The sound of trickling water drew my attention to the right. Brody stood beneath the outdoor shower, his round, bite-able backside flooding my mouth with drool.

Tearing my gaze off him, I ambled over toward Trent. He patted the couch beside him, and taking care not to reveal my too-much, naked bottom half, I settled on the cushion and allowed myself another peek at Brody.

“Hot, isn’t he?”

Trent’s low, murmured words whipped my head around. “What?”

“Brody.” He continued to stare at his friend, a smirk on his lips, lust in his eyes. “Just look at that ass.”

Unable to help myself, I did as told while trying to wrap my mind around what Trent had said—and the unmistakable desire in his gaze.

“What do you think, Tessa?”

I swallowed and laced my fingers together in my lap. “I think he’s beautiful.”

Trent made a sound of appreciation in his throat as Brody turned, closed his eyes, and tipped his head back, running his hands through his hair.

My focus zoned in on his long, flaccid penis. Cock, my whore-mind whispered. I laced my fingers tighter and forced my attention on Trent.

He met my gaze and grinned. “Quite the temptation, isn’t he?”

“Enough to make me burn in hell,” I admitted with a whisper.

But when she meets handsome club owner, Damien Michaels, Trina has to remind herself he’s a potential boss, and off limits. Certainly not someone she should be imagining kneeling before and begging for just a taste of what’s hiding beneath his expensive tailored suit.

Ollie Ashwood, lead singer of the successful indie band Infraction, is still every inch a trouble maker, but his days of partying and womanizing are over. He’s finally ready to claim the only girl he ever cared enough about not to sweet talk into his arms. I’m thoroughly chuffed to be sharing in fabulous book birthday for my good friend Lolly. I’ve enjoyed her writing for several years now, and it’s about time everyone else did, too. Consider stumbling upon your best friends making love, and from that moment onward being consumed by a frightening new attraction for them that drives you to distraction. That’s what happens to my heroine, Sasha Mooney, and during the course of the story she’s forced to decide whether she’s the third wheel or third lover.

While the story is packed with plenty of hot sex, there’s also romance. Secret Yearning pays homage to the friends to lovers troupe, but spices up this old chestnut with a menage relationship.

Psst…isn’t this cover awesome!!!!!

Blurb:

After Sasha Mooney’s latest doomed relationship fails, her best friends, Kate and Justin, drag her off for a long weekend in a remote cottage to celebrate her thirtieth birthday. Only, the new romance between Kate and Justin highlights Sasha’s loneliness—and jealousy—and she can’t help but crave the return of their cozy, platonic threesome.

Whichever way Sasha turns, she stumbles across Kate and Justin making love, and soon she’s consumed by a frightening desire for both of them that isolates her further.

When a morning alone with Kate leads to a romantic encounter, Sasha’s guilt and self-loathing spiral out of control. She’s crossed a line and quickly hurdles another when Justin walks in on her in the shower and sparks fly. With hopes of salvaging her friendships fading fast, Sasha’s options don’t look pretty. Either she risks Kate and Justin’s contempt by admitting her feelings for them both, or she respects their new relationship and walks out of their lives for good.

Q&A with the Mortal Machine’s Remy #interview #releaseday

I thought long and hard about how to celebrate the release of Midnight Dawn. I could talk about my challenges in writing the book, my inspiration, or the fact that the book is only 99 cents for a limited time, but it’s been done a million times before. Nope, I needed something new and epic.

Yesterday, it finally hit me. I needed Remy in the hot seat. Readers seem to be fascinated with my gentle giant, and I realized I know almost nothing about him.

It took some coaxing…okay, it took a whole load of coaxing and promises of peach pie with a gallon of ice cream, but he finally agreed to talk to me, and to you, the reader. He’ll be answering your questions all day long, so post them in the comments below.

Casting call: Jason Mamoa would play a great Remy, no?

INTERVIEW

“Hey, Remy,” I asked, settling into the chair across from him, close enough our knees brushed. “Um…why are you trying to strangle your own fingers, big guy? I’m not going to take a bite out of you. We’re just going to talk.”

He lifted his chin and studied me with his bright blue eyes that had a jade star as a mark of his sentinel status. Tribal tattoos covered one whole half of him, cutting his handsome, exotic face in two. Neither side of it appeared happy to be here. “Jus’ talk, huh?” he said in his creole accent of Hawaiian and Canadian English. “Then why you have that look in you eye, Adams?”

I raised a brow and smiled in a way I hoped appeared innocent. “What look would that be?”

“The one that usually come right before you do something nasty to one of us, especially my kolohe, Addison. I should know. I see it lots. An’ where’s my pie?”

I waved him off and sat back. Addison was finally growing into the big shoes she had to fill. Yeah, so I’d put her through hell, but she was strong. “Tell me about the first time you saw Sophia, and we’ll get you that pie.”

Remy sat up straighter, his features softening as they did every time I mentioned the young woman he’d adored in secret for decades. “She was in a tree when Asher an’ me find her. As wild and timid as a cat, and jus’ as skittish. She’d jus’ seen her first wraith, an’ it took me almost two hour to coax her down outta that tree.” He chuckled, and it wasn’t entirely a happy sound. His smile fell flat. “Only eighteen, and her life already full of darkness not even a mind-wipe could erase.”

“But now she has you to turn on the light.”

He half smiled and shook his ginormous head. “Her fadda hurt her, and I have big hands like he did. I scare her, too.”

I leaned forward and patted his knee. “Don’t you worry, big guy. I don’t think you scare her the way you think you do. She just doesn’t know how to be loved yet, because she’s never had that. Just keep being your patient, gentle self, and she’ll come around.”

“If you say so.” His cheeks reddened, and he went back to strangling his hands. “Now get on with this. Ask what you really want to know so I can get back to her.”

I sighed and reached for his hand to stop him from cutting off his own circulation and maybe give him some comfort, but one dark look from him sent me back in my chair. “A sentinel’s gifts are born of their fears, as you know. And Izan chooses his guardians based on their potential to have heightened emotions, which powers the Mortal Machine. Why did he choose you, Remy? What was your childhood like? I know everything about Sophia, but what scares you?”

An unsettling stillness came over him, as if his body had shut down while whatever wound I’d poked my finger into consumed him. I felt like a grade A asshole, but I didn’t take back the question. I needed to know before I wrote the next chapter of his life.

“I tell you if you promise nothing bad happen to Sophia in whatever nasty piece of work you write for us next.”

Ah! Nasty? I swallowed my snappy retort and rekindled my smile. “I think readers would throttle me if I ever hurt Sophia. I can’t promise she won’t shed some tears by the end, but I can promise that everything will turn out okay.”

“You version of ‘okay’ and mine totally different, I’d bet.” After an agonizing few minutes, he finally said, “Water.”

Squinting at him, I waited for more that never came. “I’m sorry, what about water?”

“I don’ like the water, okay?” he snarled. “Now jus’ drop it.”

No wonder he never went swimming. “You know I can’t do that. Why are you scared of the water, Remy?”

His knuckles made a terrible cracking sound as he curled one fist into the other. “My mother jealous my of the time my fadda spend with me. Try to drown me in the ocean when I was four year old.” His eyes iced over as he set his haunted stare on me. “You know what it feel like to have lungs full of salt water? To know the woman who give birth to me try to kill her own child? So yeah, that stick with a man for a good long while. Bring it up again, or you make my Sophia cry for any reason, you an’ me come to blows, you get me?”

My heart dropped at the pain in his voice. “Yeah, Remy. I get you. I’m sorry. You know I love you both to pieces, right?”

He sighed, and the aggressiveness that only moments before made me thankful for good bladder control disappeared as if it had never been. “Yeah, I know you do. Just be good, yeah?”

Good? He clearly didn’t know me very well. A person’s greatness often comes out of the hardest trials, and Remy would find his happy place at the end of his own hard road. Hopefully he didn’t throttle me after he found out what I had in store for them in Forever Dusk. Peach pie could fix anything, even an impending apocalypse. Couldn’t it?

Thanks for helping me celebrate the release of Midnight Dawn. Remy will be sticking around for a while today. If you have any questions for him, post them in the comments below and he’d be glad to answer.

Excerpt:
“It’s just…Wulfy’s missing, and I thought—” The words stick in my throat. What if she won’t help? How will I ever find him?

“He’s what?” In the background, I can hear loud thumps and shouting. “I’m getting the duct tape out. I’ll use it this time, I swear it!”

“You will not.” I bite back a giggle.

“I might. You have no idea what I’m putting up with. They spent all week at Mom’s, and she hyped them up on pixie sticks and soda. I’ve exhausted a whole day peeling them off the ceiling. I’m just hoping when it wears off they’ll sleep for a week.”

“Good luck with that.”

“Did you say Wulfy is missing? How long’s he been gone? He’s probably off for a long run. Wolves do that, you know? Remember how Mom used to take off for days, leaving us with Aunt Ginger? Always claiming she was out hunting, when she was really in Vegas gambling?”

“But, I haven’t seen him in days.” I shove the notepad back and forth across the table.

“Did you, uhm…snap at him?”

“No!”

“Well, fess up. What happened?”

“Nothing. I was on the phone with Mom and I uh…” I try to remember the conversation. “I told her about the doggy bowl I got for Wulfy. I even gave him the fancy new dog food I got for him. He scratched at the door and I let him out.”

“You got him a dog bowl?” Bella chokes.

“Well, yes. I thought it was a nice thing to do.”

Honestly, wolves. They never make sense, even in human form. Of course, I gave Wulfy a dog bowl, how else do you show a dog you love them? One can’t go around petting them 24/7.
