Welcome to the first round of CLASH of the Urban Fantasy Titans!
The other day I found myself wondering what would happen if two book worlds collided, bringing two characters together in a situation where tempers flared hot. There are so many combinations, so many talents and weaknesses.
If they fought it out, who would win?
I’ve decided, just for a little Monday fun, to give you a scenario, pitting two heavy hitters against one another, and put it to a vote to find out who YOU think would come out on top.
And now, presenting your contestants for today …
Laurell K. Hamilton’s short but feisty
Ilona Andrew’s resourceful magic slinger
Here’s the scenario. Kate is ticked off with Curran, so she heads off to St. Louis for a mini vacation. While in a bar there–the Laughing Corpse, perhaps?–she runs into Anita Blake’s main squeeze, Jean Claude. She does some harmless flirting with him (okay, I know that’s not Kate’s style, but humor me, okay? :) )
As anyone who has read the Anita Blake series knows, Anita doesn’t take too kindly to women pawing her studly harem of men.
When the fur begins to fly between Anita & Kate, the bar clears, leaving only the two of them. Except, of course, Jean Claude, who stays to enjoy the show.
In Kate’s arsenal, she has her power words and her sword. Anita has guns galore and her own sword, not to mention her triumvirate with Jean Claude & Richard make her damn hard to kill.
Who do you think would win this fight? Can Kate get a power word off before Anita can shoot her? Powerful or not, a bullet will still make her dead. If Kate can use her “obey” command, she can just have Anita shoot herself in the head.
Would either of them hesitate to kill the other?
This vote isn’t about the character you LIKE the best. It’s about who you think would KICK ARSE the best. Cast your vote and tell me why in the comments below.
The poll will be open all week. At the beginning of next week’s Clash, I’ll announce the winner of this week’s battle.
If you have a suggestion for a pair of literary characters to throw into fisticuffs, put it in the comments.
